Some say that Baccarat is a thrilling game. As you should know it is
played at all major
casinos around the the world. Like craps, Baccarat is an intimating game
when you don't know how it's played. But like most card games it's very
easy to to learn and fortunately for you it is a simple game to
"technically" deal. The hard part is the human relation
skills that are necessary to deal the "big game" where you sir
are wearing a tuxedo and handling huge wagers. The stress involved
dealing under that kind of "heat" is incredible at times. But
you, camehopper, need not worry about that right now. Odds are you
will deal the lower limit Mini-Bac game located smack dab in the
middle if the blackjack pit..........So what. The rules are basically
the same.
As for the fine folks that play this game, their objective is to place a
wager on the layout that either the player's hand will win, the banker's
hand will win, or that the game will result in a tie. I'll explain
the details below.
Most craps dealers think of the banker as the dealer which is not
correct at all. It's just a spot where one can place his bets on the
layout. Simply think of the player as the pass line and the banker
as the dont pass. The number in the illustration (#4) is simply the the
forth position on the table. There will be up to seven players you'll
deal to. You'll soon find out that Baccarat is a very simple game.
And
one more thing for what it's worth. Most of the time the game is dealt
sitting down!

As with any new game you want to learn how to deal, I
suggest you consider the following:
 |
Read the basic rules of play |
 |
Play a free online version of MINI BACCARAT and learn how
to play the game on your computer. NO DOWNLOAD |
 |
Watch the game being dealt at work on one or two of your breaks. |
 |
Go to another casino on your night off and actually play the live game. |
 |
Come back and read the Baccarat
dealing advice |
 |
Read
up on your policy manual that the casino gave to you when you were
hired if |
 |
Ask the Pit Manager if you can break
into dealing the game slowly either on one of your breaks or stay a few
minutes after your shift and have current dealer "shadow'" you for
a while. This is typically accomplished in most casinos when
business is slow and shouldn't take a craps dealer but a few hours of practice to
feel comfortable dealing this game. |
 |
Make
sure you butter up the pit manager and floor people a little
with that "eager to learn charm show" of yours
about a week or so before hitting them up for training. |
 |
Where
there is a 'will' to learn, there will always be a 'way.' |
BASIC
RULES
Rules Of Play
The
object of baccarat is to predict if the player or the banker's
hand will get a point value closest to 9, keeping in mind that all
ten-value cards count as zero and Aces count as one. The hand with the
highest point value wins.
The highest
total any baccarat hand can have is nine. A two-card total of nine is
called a "natural" and cannot lose. An eight is the
second-best hand and is also called a "natural". If both the player
and banker are dealt identical hands, it's a standoff (a tie)
and neither the banker nor the player hand wins.
You,
the dealer, do not receive any cards, or play against anyone. The player
(customer) will predict which hand
The
player and the banker are each dealt a two-card hand.
Following standard baccarat rules, a third card is dealt to the player
and/or the banker discussed below.
Hand Values
Ace
= one point
Face cards and tens = zero
All
other cards carry the point value stated on the card. If the cards in a
hand total more than ten points, simply subtract ten; the remainder is
the baccarat point value of the hand.

Example:
8+8=16,
which counts as a 6 in baccarat; and a Jack+7=17, which counts as
7. |
Third
Card Rules
The
following baccarat rule chart governs when the player and/or the banker
will automatically be dealt (i.e. "draws") a third card in the
Baccarat game: If the point value of the first two cards is 8 or 9, this
is called a Natural. If anyone is dealt a Natural the game ends and no
third card is dealt to anyone.
